|
|
I have decided since its the Hols and I have a small amount of spare time to attempt to build a new case to house the soon to be updated components of my pc. The main idea is that the case looks simple but elegant but when you look close it has lots of little hidden things. I appologise in advance for the textures on the image im not soo good on SketchUp (give me 3ds Max anyday ). The other main aim is to build a case arround the water cooling rather than vice versa. Any ideas and comments would be very usefull.
(sorry about putting pics in wrong i dont know how to do it (and who should i host phots with in future?))

I use photobucket if I need to host multiple photos (ie for a new build).
Looks neat. Building from scratch? _________________

| Hopefully not, i think im gonna use a coolermaster centurion sized case, then use the fram from that and then probs have the curved top machined from scratch, ill use bog standard mesh/grate for the right hand side, but hopefully will still be able to use doner case doors etc |

| Yea i looked at that case but the curve is too small I want quite a big curve, becuase the centre part in between the two mesh sections will open to reveal a fill hole for the resevoir, a few buttons and maybe depending on curve size a small VFD or temperate display screen. So it looks like I will have to get it custom made. My idea is to strip a case down to its very frame, drill out the rivets for the top section, shorten the top section and raise it, then connect it at the back and with the curve at the front, that make any sense? |

lol Geno
the biggest curv in a case I can think of atm is a darn ugly one I saw on newegg a while ago. Not sure who makes it but it looks like a snail or something
ah found it Lian Li Memorial case. Not to sure how helpful this will be lol http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112084

Thanks for the ideas, the curve i am meaning is only a 'quater curve' i guess.
The size is shown in the picture below (effectively stick 2 5.25 drive bay covers together(one vertical and one horizontal) then draw a quater curve between the two).
I think im just gona have to make the curve on my own, it shouldn't be to difficult. I am off to the PC shop I used to work at, cause they said i can have any and as many of the pc case they have from dead machines, so lets hope I can find a good doner case. Also does anyone know a good source of watercooling kit etc for here in the UK cause postage and customs tax would be crazy on parts from the US.
Also Geno I am loving ure current BFG case project it looks awesome so far

Yay . I popped into town today and voila picked up the doner case (expect pics to be on soon), now ive enlisted the help of my freind Jack(MAC FANBOI ) to drill out the rivets and start on the heavy work |

Well i have run across some major problems, firstly when my freind measured the donor case to see if it fit, he measure it wrong, so he got the height and the length confused, so instead of the case being longer rather than taller(like the coolermaster) it is taller rather than longer. Now the obvious solution is to just rotate the case, but unfortunatley its quite an old case so loads of the sections are one piece, rather than a frame with sections riveted on, so ill take a closer look. I wanna upload sum pictures but i realised yesterday my mum has my camera and she isnt back from croatia tille 9pm (English time) and i will be out untill midnight tonight for parkour. If anybody has any bright ideas i would really appreciate it

Thats why I gave up on modding existing cases for custom projects long ago and just build them from scratch now. It is cheaper, easier, and you get a much better result. _________________

Yea I guess you are right, I was thinking about doin that from the beginning, but I just cant find anywhere near me that would do it, to be frank I dont even know where to start, I have tried a few places but they have either been crazy expensive or dont want to do it, can anyone suggest either a place they know of (in the UK ) or what sort of places I should be contacting.

here you would look for fabrication or sheet metal shops. Be careful though as most of them do "coarse" work like HVAC ducting etc that nobody sees. _________________
