Huge thank you to my Sponsor!!!

Concept Sketches:

Well I have decided to start a log and keep people up to date on what is going on. Everything is coming together quite nicely. I have some great backing with people such as Mr BoxGods himself, Geno. I will post as I complete things. Stay tuned to see how this mod turns out. I will not ruin the theme of this mod, see if you can discover what the theme is over time. So to begin you need five Cooler Master products to compete in this competition. Have a CM case which counts as two points, and a CM PSU which counts as one. Only two more CM products to go.

Firstly there will be hard drive window mod's done with this computer. Which means that you have to remove the old tops of the HD's and replace them with the design of your choice, all while keeping the HD DUST FREE with a clean box like the one in the tutorial here at BoxGods. I will write up a how to on HD window mods after i get this mod complete. So here is my clean room tub to keep the dust out of the HD's. Took about eight hours total buying and building everything. Well worth it though Smile

This container was made for a cheap $13.00 total. Just a 18 gallon tub from Wal-Mart, latex dish gloves from Wal-Mart (the longer the better), 2mm Plexi from Home Depot 12x12 pieces, and Gaffers tape.

Now comes the fun part. This part intimidated me at first but i overcame my fear with some support. So now after you have built your box make sure to include the following IN the box before closing it: Torque driver for torque screws, two ziplock bags. Also use baby oil/powder to get your hands in the gloves. You should use powder as i was told baby oil eats the latex. Now close up the top and get to work. NEVER pull on a hard drive cover if it won't come undone. There is a reason that it won't detach easily. The reason is usually torque screw(s) hidden behind a label on a cover. After you remove the tops go ahead and slip the hard drives into their new temporary homes (ziplock bags). MAKE SURE TO CLEAN THE INSIDE OF YOUR CLEAN TUB OUT WITH WINDEX BEFORE DOING ANYTHING! Stop dust before it starts Smile Took about an hour to take them apart. So all in all about five hours today were spent prepping and working. Enjoy.

Next up was teh case and dismantling it. I did the case second because it arrived after the hard drives. Basically this is a very nice case, and i will be reviewing it after this mod is complete. So this is the case before it was dismantled and had any of the anodizing stripped before polishing. Polishing is yet to come but the case is now just a bunch of pieces. Motherboard did NOT come with the case. Couple hour of stripping the case down, and keepinge verything organized for easy assembly.

This is the latest as of now. More to come very soon. Its always hard to see your future machine in pieces but i love thinking about the end result. Hope you have enjoyed, and feel free to ask any questions. Couple hours getting this thing done and stripped without scratches. Longer work time but less work time in the long run.

Ok so now before i can polish i have to rid the anodize that is on every part of this case. If you do not remove the anodize polishing is pointless. You would just be smearing the anodize if doing anything at all. I would tell you this secret anodize removing material but i would have to own you as special forces in BF2, sorry insider trick ladies/fellas. Here is what goes on in the process. You put some of your magic potion on the pieces you want the anodize to melt off of. You let it sit for 30-45minutes, i did 45 minutes. Return with some warm water and paper towel/cloth and presto just whipe that trouble away. I decided to move into the bathroom because i can get more pieces done without the wind blowing the stuff in my eyes and mouth. Total de-anodizing time was about four days for these pieces. Some had more anodize then others. Still have some small pieces to strip. YUCK i don't want to smell EasyOff ever again haha.

In this picture above ^^ i smeared it just alittle so you could see the difference in color. You have the dark grey which is lifted anodize and the nice light silvery color which is aluminum. Awesome!

Yea, the clean box is just about the best way I have found for window modding drives.

http://www.boxgods.com/dept/modding/index.php?Action=Article&ID=98

Matt has been nice enough to agree to write the second half of that article, and show the actual mod. Thanks Matt =)

Gee Matt, is that secret spray looks a lot like...

Kidding aside, a few words of caution.

Matt is correct that polishing without removing the annodized coating is a HUGE waste of time. When an aluminum object is anodized, it is placed in an acid bath and subjected to DC current which causes a layer of aluminum oxide to build up on its surface. We need to remove that layer in order to get a softer surface to polish.

The aluminum oxide layer can be removed with sodium hydroxide or other base, leaving a bare aluminum surface. Since oven cleaner is mostly sodium hydroxide, it can chemically remove the anodized layer.

IT CAN ALSO EAT YOUR SKIN< OR BLIND YOU: WEAR YOUR PROTECTIVE GEAR BITCHES!!!

I got to see this case before Matt got it, and he is right, it is a really sweet case, even (eww) stock =)

I'll be watching, that's the same case I'm using right now. Eventually I gonna polish it too. Razz So far I'm happy with it aside from a few of gripes. The fans all suck ass, the front air filter screen is flimsy as hell, and the cover forth the USB, Firewire and Audio ports is kinda cheesy.

Keep up the good work.

OK guys, I need for all of you to get over to the forums at Cooler Master and register. To vote for our Boy Matts mod in that contest you need 20 posts. Yea, that is a lot of posts, but you have 3 or 4 weeks to make them, so its not a big deal, and you KNOW I would do the same for any one of you. So would Matt.

Thanks to all of you for supporting one of our own.

Hey thanks for wanting to vote for me fellas. Just do a search in Google for Cooler Master and hit their forums.
Anyways today was very lojng and rough haha. Had to run into town and pick up a binch of stuff for this build. All day i basically stripped anodize off of every piece and man what a chore that can be on some pieces. I started polishing but am picking up a nice polisher tonight from Pepboys for cheap to speed that process up as that seems to be the slowest. Anyways my hands are raw and cut but thats all part of this fromt ime to time. Here are todays photos, enjoy. Oh a side note if you are going to work with EasyOff please wear glvoes otherwise you will be sorry. I learned the first day i used it when is melt it and it dryed my hands outa little. I couldn't imagine working with that stuff all day and seeing my hands. Three days worth of work here alone in these photos. Enjoy Smile

Ok so I went out and got a polisher for $30.00 bucks that works great. I can see this cutting down on time tremendously. Here is the bottom panel after ten minutes of polishing. It was getting dark so i will be doing a lot of polishing tomorrow thanks to this new investment. Here are some pictures. You can see where im headed with this. Just a couple free hours in the zzz hours of the night.
