Got my plans in place for my PDXLAN 11 rig (will start production in October as the acrylic is being custom made . . .no, not custom cut, that will be done later . . .I mean custom made . . .red see thru acrylic mirror. . .hard to get, uber spendy). TribalEVOLUTIONS is going likely going to fab me a kewl resevoir . . .case basic design already pretty much done by Rokk at Danger Den (a not-yet released model . . .will have custom cuts for this project).
Case accessories I have on hand:

umm, nice idea, but does every one of your mods involve bladed weapons of some kind?
Just a little joke.
Can't wait to see you pull this one together, and looking forward to PDXLAN10 in the meantime. |

Its actually the vampire bent . . .the weapons just go with it. At least I don't build rigs like these anymore;

Rokk is working on the Solidworks drawings (gave him rough data from my GoogleSketch workup). I have all the custom ordered acrylic in. A major vendor said they will help me get some great parts to go in it. Oh, check out the work TribalOverkill has done on the resevoirs (my rig will have one spinner and two dual chamber units):

Video of it without lighting:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqjsKm3ZHnI
He is also working on a custom for someone else that is really cool:

Once I get the resevoirs with custom shield from TribalOverkill it will be time to laser cut teh case . . .w000t. It looks like the system will have dual mobos in it. I also hope to have two monitors drop from the arms of the case (crucifix shaped case since it is a vampire theme0. Geno from BoxGods will design the monitor mounting arms and hopefully the front panel opening mechanism.
Looks like I have all the weapons for the mod:

Wow that res is awesome looking. I've always liked the blade movies and their style. I'll be looking forward to seeing the finished product of this. _________________

Its probably why I like it. I even think we used blade examples when trying to describe/design parts of it. _________________

Yea, remember how yours had a sword standing upright that rotated? Same deal here. Should be a nice mod. _________________

HA--only cause you have pimpness in your blood and the wallet to back it up.
Wait till his wife sees what it costs to "machine a few gears and throw in some displays". She will be making house calls (or whatever vets call them) for "servicing" to his new home in the DOG pound.
Kidding aside, working with guys like you and Bod is a blast because you have a crystal clear idea of how it should be. I guarantee PT knows exactly what I am talking about. My wife the interior designer calls it "clients with eclectic tastes".
Gonna be a show stopper for sure DB. _________________

Your welcome to post it here in the forums, but I would prefer to present it on the site in either a straight up article, as a case study, or as an instructional article.
Version 2 of the site is done and in Beta testing right now. The plan is to have the content from the current version moved over to the new format and the new site running by early December. Classy new look to present your classy work =) _________________

Its true, I've actually got version 2 almost done. Once we get some of the content moved over I'll release it into a public beta form so you guys can check it out and give feedback and any problems you run into. Then we will make the full switch in early December. _________________

Well,... I mean all my work from here on in,.. not just this reservoir. So I would like to create a LEVO, CEVO, and Blackout logs if you guyz don't mind. I'll wait for the beta version of the site though.
As for DB sFX res,... it's god like! I fixed the problem I was having with bypass pan and it spins hard and fast! With an entire WC setup! I'm almost certain that two sFX res's can run off of one loop! We'll see once I finish updating Qhs's res. I'm about to update my other logs with pics and videos too. I've got it lit up with red lighting too! MUAH HA HA HA!!! _________________ A.C.Ryan's brand NEW Website is LIVE! First 50 to register get a free AluBoxDuo! No joke! |

One of these days when you have spare of the impeller and the swirly parts, you should send em as I am a mold maker and cast acrylic parts. If your still bending those like you were in past work logs I have red...well having parts cast is a lot easier.
Would also be a challenge to figure out how to mold something as curvy as your parts are. _________________

Boy...that thing is really moving =)
Any idea of the pressure drop as a result?
As for posting about your mod DB--I would never even consider doing that, but thanks. I would like to clear up a miscommunication we are having in our email conversation though. I was not saying the door system you showed me would take away from the animatronics for the displays--in fact I was saying the opposite--the focal point of the mod is and is supposed to be the sword/weapons and my concern was that the displays as I designed them would steal the thunder so to speak. Thats why I suggested the flashier door/sword animatronics.
Gonna be bad ass! I am working on the design today for the doors, just need some idea of how the sword will attach/rest in the case? I was thinking a sort of bulkhead with a notch that the hilt rests on so it is removable?
Lemme know. _________________

Geno you have a large part in the design of this so your name is going to be on it as well dude. It is my project but unlike other projects some people may have been involved with I will not present a work without contributors getting due credit . . .so if it is featured here or there credit will go to a multitude of people including you, Rokk, and TribalOverkill. To me ethics is more important than glory . . .and we all do this for the glory so we should all share the kudos for quality work. That being said . . .this thread is as much yours and TribalOverkill's as mine. Post away anything related to this project.
I was thinking of having a notched type holder for the sword as well, no need to transmort the case with the sword in place. Plus I need it to fight off the n00bs. . . _________________ http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/759/dbfinal0fg4ib.gif |

HAHAHA!
As for the mirrored acrylic, I only have 3 concerns.
Seeing a silver cube rotating through 90 degrees is not as impressive as seeing 4 displays rotating. That said, I guess having them on would be closer to seeing displays rotate.
also, edges of the mirrored look less then spanky when glued. If your going to use the ruby red for the non display faces that will help.
Lastly, polished aluminum is truly beautiful. Chrome isn't too bad either, but at least for my tastes, mixing in polished to a mirror with mirrored plex can look mismatched depending on the plex. And ANY light in the place is goingto be reflected right into your face lol.
Only opinions, as always, modders choice. _________________

I am really partial to the mirrored effect . . .got to have it. I am ordering more mirror today. Your design changes mean I need larger pieces for the main part of the cross. Please advice on what you where thinking to access panels on the side. . .Should I make the entire side come off? Or better, for the initial build the side can come off but after that have the mobo trays slide out the back. _________________ http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/759/dbfinal0fg4ib.gif |

I am really worried about torsional stiffness DB. Gyroscopic procession (one of the reasons airplanes pull left) is where forces of a rotating body's mass is applied 90 degrees to the mass thats rotating. You have something like 16 POUNDS of monitor mass working at 90 degrees to the long axis of the upright portion of the case. With a depth of 17" and the 3/8" material were pretty good.
But then you have another 4-5 pounds of sword spinning a full 180 with its mas working in the opposite 90 degree plane. Picture wringing out a towel as thats essentially what your doing.
If you start cutting big chunks out of the sides of the case, ESPECIALL with the face basically open...it IS going to be a problem. Adding the internal bulkhead at the top of the left to right crosses arms is good, but if your going to add mother board sized hatches below that then we need to add more bulkheads, or stiffeners along the hatches opening. Like 1" wide strips of the 3/8" material as a sort of lip to the opening.

Here is the sword into:
http://www.swordsdirect.com/daywalker-sword.html
Sword of the Daywalker as seen in the movie "Blade" - All the power of an immortal in your hand. Sword of the Day Walker. As seen in the movie "Blade". 35 1/4" overall. 26 1/8" double edge polished stainless blade. Zinc handle with a silver and black coating, giving it the same finish as the movie version.
I will buy a caliper so I can get handle diameter for you. _________________ http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/759/dbfinal0fg4ib.gif |
