Review: Lian Li PC-S80 |

One area that has been a little bit of a problem in the past (for all
brushed aluminum cases) is the fingerprint issue. Lian-Li lists "Hard
Anodized" as a feature--I don't know if that is a reference to a more
smudge resistant finish or not, but I did notice that the PC-S80 not
only is a little harder to smudge, but also wipes off a lot easier
when you do get the "drool prints"...and you will get them, trust me.
The power switch image above was used about 10 times and didn't look
too bad. Other images in this article do show some prints, but Windex
and a cloth wipes 'em right off now--before, they were harder to get off
than prying a redneck off the couch during a NASCAR race.

I installed an ASUS A8N32-SLI DELUX, an ASUS A8R32-MVP DELUX, and a
Sapphire PC-A9 RD580Adv. Both CrossFire motherboards were used in dual
and single card mode--without any issues. For video cards, I used a Sapphire X1900XTX and a Sapphire X1900XT MC. For a CPU, I ran an AMD X2 4400+ and its stock air cooler. For PSU installation, I used our test bench
Sintech 500 SLI. I was able to monitor its temperatures at idle and
under load and it had zero issues--running as cool or cooler than when
installed on our test bench. I tried a variety of HDD's ranging from
generic Samsung to 10K Raptors.
Ok, Ok...was it quiet? Yes.
Very quiet? Yes. The attention to detail and quality construction elements
like double wall sound isolation, gasketed doors, grommeted fans, tight
riveting, etc.--all contribute to the quietest case I have personally
ever experienced. I think this is all the more amazing because I was not
running "quiet parts"--parts sold at higher prices that are promoted as
silent system parts--but rather mainstream performance parts--X1900XTX,
Raptors and so on.

Lian-Li has done it again--and in my opinion--done it even better
than before with the PC-S80. It has the minimalist elegance Lian-Li is
famous for (that seashell thing aside =), and the build quality has
only gotten better over the years. The case is an absolute joy to work
with--simple and elegant at every turn. It is tight, engineered to be
whisper quiet, and just plain sexy. For those looking for an investment
class case that doesn't miss a single detail, the PC-S80 should be at
the top of your list.
I am told that SilverPCS is already accepting pre-orders for the PC-S80 (with a $10.00 off coupon no less), and expects to start shipping around April 26th.
