3DMark05 does not necessarily
show how your card will perform in games, though being a synthetic
benchmark, it helps us with a simplified "numbers" comparison. The
7800GTX 512MB takes the crown in this benchmark and 7900GT is in 3rd place.
3DMark06
3DMark06 is an updated version of Futuremark's popular synthetic
benchmarking. An interesting thing to note in this benchmark is that
the 7900GT caught up to the X1800XT and even pushed a few points ahead.
However, the 7800GTX 512MB is still leading. So much for synthetic
benchmarks, let's see how we fare in games.
F.E.A.R.
What I like about F.E.A.R. is that it has a built in performance
test available to anyone with the full retail version of the game. This
allows everyone who owns the game to easily benchmark their hardware
and see how it stacks up. We ran this benchmark on Maximum Details,
4xAA and 16xAF with Softshadows disabled. At 1024x768 the 7900GT
manages to overcome 7800GTX 512MB and X1800XT.
With the
resolution increased to 1600x1200, the 7900GT slips to 3rd place;
however, the difference is only a few FPS, and would not be noticed in
a real world play setting. This benchmark really shows the performance
boost over the older 7800GT's.
